Texas Barbell Club hosts courses designed to aid in coaching development for Olympic Weightlifting, including USAW Level 1 and USAW Level 2.

COACHING EDUCATION COURSES

USAW Level 1

In this two-day course, participants will gain practical information about weightlifting technique, assessing movement, motor learning, biomechanics, effective coaching, and programming training. In addition to covering scientifically based concepts to optimize training and skill learning, a large portion of the course will be hands-on teaching and application of the complete technical progressions of the snatch, clean and jerk, and assistance lifts. Gain access to proven training plans to get your athletes or clients started with Olympic lifting and enjoy the support of USAW to help you further your knowledge about training and coaching athletes. In this course, participants will delve deeper into topics covered in the Level 1 course, as well as learn about essentials such as competition preparation, proper nutrition and mental training for weightlifters. Over the course of two days, expert USAW coaches will cover advanced strength and power development principles, scientifically based program design, national competition preparation and coaching strategies, as well as long-term development of weightlifters. Participants will have a chance to discuss how to approach programming through examples of training systems and real-world plans for the development of weightlifters and other athletes.

Art of Coaching Weightlifting

The Art of Coaching Weightlifting is a Coaches' Seminar and Clinic taught by Ursula Garza Papandrea. It is a 14 hour course over 2+ days, The Art of Coaching Weightlifting is not just another course in progressions but a lessons in a comprehensive methodology to help you become a better coach. The course covers everything from teaching beginners and movement assessment to a comparative of the most common progressions taught today. Furthermore, we review how to integrate them into a program for teaching beginners and beyond. This course is not an argument in semantics; it IS a course that provides complete conceptual understanding of the lifts with full explanations of how and why. It includes a section on error identification and which, how, and why exercises are used for correction of different errors. It concludes with a lecture and discussion on Bulgarian versus Russian programming.
